When you create an ad account, you'll be asked to confirm that your tax status is “business”. Business status means that you would like to see an economic benefit from your advertising, such as increased revenue, sales, or signups. Affiliates, sole traders, self-employed merchants, partnerships, and others all qualify as businesses. Ads can only be used for business purposes.
Most businesses are required to register for Value Added Tax (VAT) or Goods and Services Tax (GST). Once registered, you'll receive a VAT or GST number under which you can collect and remit tax to the relevant tax authority. This number is an alphanumeric identifier unique to the person or entity doing business. A VAT or GST number is used to identify the tax status of a customer and also to identify the place of taxation.
The information provided by Pinterest in the Help Center should not be regarded as a substitute for obtaining tax advice. Pinterest cannot give advice about VAT. If you have a question about VAT or GST registration, please contact your tax advisor or the appropriate tax authority.
Whether you're charged VAT or GST on your Pinterest ad purchases will depend on your country of residence.
Ireland
If your business is established in Ireland, we'll add VAT at the applicable Irish rate to the costs of your purchase of ads. The sale is therefore deemed to take place in Ireland for VAT purposes.
If your business is VAT 13b/56b exempt, please check the box in the “Tax information” section and provide your exemption number. You won't be charged VAT.
EU (outside of Ireland)
If your business is established in another EU Member State (outside of Ireland), Irish VAT will not be charged on your purchase of ads as the sale is deemed to take place outside of Ireland for VAT purposes. However, you’ll be required to provide your VAT ID and to self-account for VAT on the supply of our service at the rate applicable in your EU member state (in accordance with Article 44 and 196 of the Council Directive).
Non-EU
If your business is established outside of the EU, Irish VAT will not be charged on your purchase of ads as the sale is deemed to take place outside of Ireland for VAT purposes. However, you’ll be required to provide your VAT or GST ID, and you may be required to self-account for VAT on the supply of our service at the rate applicable in your country. Please check with your local tax authority.
Canada

Colombia
Pinterest advertising customers in Colombia are subject to a 19% Value Added Tax (VAT), based on Colombian tax laws. This applies to all advertisers whose “bill to” business country is in Colombia. VAT will be collected by Pinterest if the advertiser has not provided information related to its Colombian tax identification number (NIT), has not confirmed its VAT Collector qualification (and that it will self-assess VAT), and has not provided required tax documentation.

Chile
The services rendered by Pinterest to Chilean customers are exempt from Chilean Withholding tax (i.e. “Impuesto Adicional”) through the Double Tax Treaty between Chile and the US (“DTT”) and are subject to VAT.
In order to apply for the provisions of the DTT, we are providing:
You can access these documents in your billing page under the tab “Tax Documents”. These documents must be available to the Chilean Tax Authority if requested.
Pinterest will charge 19% Value Added Tax (VAT) to advertisers that are Chilean tax residents and haven’t confirmed if they are VAT taxpayers responsible for self-assessing VAT.
Pinterest will then report and pay that VAT under the Simplified Regime for Foreign Taxpayers, regulated in section 35 A of the Chilean VAT act. All advertisers will be required to provide their Chilean Tax ID (RUT).

Argentina
Advertising fees/prices do not include any Argentine taxes that may be due from you; VAT and any such taxes will not be included on the Pinterest invoice or Credit Card receipt but will generally be added to the cost of your advertising purchase by the Financial Intermediary, if applicable. In some cases, you as the Argentine customer may be the Party required to self-assess, report and remit VAT to the Argentina Tax Authority if such taxes are not charged to you by the Financial Intermediary.
The Financial Intermediary may also charge applicable taxes like turnover tax (Ingresos Brulos - IIBB), depending on the Argentine Province you reside in, at the rate required by provincial laws, the federal currency tax (PAIS) and any other taxes that apply to digital services purchased in foreign currency. In some cases, you as the Argentine customer may be responsible to self-assess, report and remit any such taxes to the appropriate Argentine tax authority if such taxes are not charged to you by the Financial Intermediary.

Japan Consumption Tax
If your business is established within Japan you may be subject to a reverse charge mechanism to account for Japan Consumption Tax (“JCT”) on your purchase of ads.
Pinterest Europe Limited, a company incorporated in the Republic of Ireland, provides the Pinterest ads service to Japan based businesses. Pinterest Europe Limited will bill Japan based businesses via invoice and/or credit card. The purchase of advertisement services from Pinterest Europe Limited should fall under the supply of B2B digital services under Japanese Consumption Tax Law, regardless of whether the Japanese customers are JCT taxpayers. The amount charged by Pinterest Europe Limited for its services does not include JCT. Japanese customers may be obliged to report output JCT on the services under a reverse-charge mechanism.
The information above is for information purposes only as Pinterest does not provide tax advice. You should consult your own tax advisers for your specific situation.
You can update your VAT ID or GST ID in your business settings.
A common mistake is to enter a tax number instead of a VAT registration number. EU VAT registration numbers start with a country-specific ID, followed by a maximum of 12 characters (numbers or letters). Visit the European Commission's website if you'd like to confirm your EU VAT registration number.
Australian businesses should enter their ABN (Australian Business Number), a unique 11 digit identifier.
New Zealand businesses should enter their NZBN (New Zealand Business Number), a unique 13 digit identifier.
Canadian businesses should enter their GST, HST or QST number.
You can still set up an ad account with Pinterest without VAT or GST if:
To set up an ad account without a VAT or GST, leave the Tax Number field blank. You'll need to provide a business address and confirm that your account is for business purposes.
To find out more information about who is obligated to register for VAT or GST or who may elect to register and the procedures for registration, please contact your local tax authority.
When your credit card is successfully charged, Pinterest will email an invoice to the billing email address associated with your account, typically within 48 hours of the transaction. Our invoices are valid invoices for tax purposes.
