After creating a campaign and ad group in Ads Manager, you will select Pins to promote. These ads will be shown to your targeted audience on Pinterest. You can create new Pins or promote Pins you've saved before.

Create ads

  1. From your Pinterest business account, click Ads
    • To create ads in a new campaign, select Create ad
      • Click Ads in the left-hand side navigation
    • To create ads in an existing campaign, select Reporting
      • Click the tick box next to the campaign you want to add an ad to
      • Click the Ad groups tab
      • Click the name of an existing ad group or click Create ad group to create a new ad group
      • Click Create ad
  2. Select the Pins you want to promote
    • Click the toggle icon to filter ads by format or to only show existing ads
    • You can see all of your pins while scrolling through the 'All Pins' tab, or go to the 'Boards' tab to select Pins by going through the boards on your profile
    • Click into the search bar to search for a specific Pin
    • Click  to create a Pin
  3. Click Selected to review the details of your selected Pins
    • Edit the ad name to change how your ad will be labelled in your reporting
    • Update the ad destination URL and add any UTM parameters
    • Click Remove to remove the Pin from this ad group
    • Click the tick box next to "Pause ad?" to create this ad in a paused state 
  4. Click Launch
    • If your campaign is missing any necessary information, errors will be highlighted in orange on the left-hand side of the screen
    • Click the highlighted topics in the left-hand navigation to jump to that section and fix any existing errors

Once you click Launch, your Pins will go through our ad review process to make sure they follow our advertising guidelines

When using the filter to create ads in a certain format, bear in mind that some ad formats are only available for certain campaign objectives.

Preview your ads

Want to see what an ad will look like once it's live? If you're creating ads using Ads Manager, you can send a preview of the ad to your mobile device. You'll need your computer and a mobile device with the most current version of the Pinterest app.

Create preview in Ads Manager

  1. Click Ads in the top left-hand corner of your screen
  2. Select Create ad
  3. In the menu on the left, click Ads
  4. Select the Pin you want to preview as an ad
  5. Click the Selected tab
  6. Click Preview Pin to send a preview of the ad to your mobile phone

Note: Ad preview is only available for ads created using Ads Manager. It can't be used to preview organic Pins or shopping ads.

View ad preview on your mobile device

  1. Open the Pinterest app on your mobile device
  2. Tap  at the bottom of your screen to open your notifications
  3. You’ll see a notification that says 'Here’s a preview of your Pinterest ad!'
  4. Open the notification to see your ad preview
  5. Your ad will populate in-screen 
  6. Scroll up to see how the ad will look in someone's feed

Optional: if you want to get alerts for your Pin previews, turn on push notifications
