All about Pins

Pinterest is the world’s catalog of ideas—every Pin you see is an idea that someone saved to Pinterest. A Pin links back to the site it came from, so you can learn more—like how to make it, or where to buy it.

You can search for anything on Pinterest, and when you find something you want to save for yourself, click the Save button to add it to one of your boards.

You can also save things you find around the web with the Save button for your browser.

Types of Pins
Adding places to Pins

There are a few different types of Pins you may see on Pinterest:

  • Buyable Pins: These are products that you can buy right on Pinterest, without ever leaving the app.
  • Picked for you Pins: We’ll sometimes recommend Pins for you based on the boards you create, the Pins you save or click on, and other stuff you do on Pinterest. If you see a Picked for you Pin that you don't really care for:
    • Click the three-dot button to hide it (on mobile, press and hold a Pin and tap the three-dot button)
    • If you’d like, fill out this survey to share your thoughts

We'll remove the Pin from your feed and work on improving the Pins we pick for you in the future.

  • Promoted Pins: Businesses pay to have these Pins show up where you'd be more likely to notice them. The Promoted Pins you see are based on your interests and things you do on Pinterest. If you don’t like a Promoted Pin:
    • Click the three-dot button to hide it (on mobile, press and hold a Pin and tap the three-dot button)
    • If you’d like, fill out this survey to share your thoughts

We’ll use your feedback to show you more interesting and relevant Promoted Pins in the future.  Place Pins: These Pins include a map and other helpful details, like phone numbers, addresses and store hours.

You might want to save a Pin that doesn’t have a place attached to it yet. After you save it, edit the Pin and add a place—or if you're on iOS, add a place when you're saving using the place icon. If you're having trouble finding a spot, try a broader search, like "San Francisco, CA", then filter your results from there.

If you see the wrong place to a Pin, report it to us and we’ll remove it from that Pin and any others like it.

About our maps and data: Our maps and place data come from FourSquare and some of our other partners.
