2014 Transparency Report Summary 

Number of legal process globally

We received requests from law enforcement agencies in the United States (39 request for 54 accounts), Canada (1 request for 3 accounts) and Australia (1 request for 1 account).

Number and type of legal process from the US law enforcement agencies

There were 10 warrants, 29 subpoenas, 0 national security requests and 0 other from US law enforcement.

Number of requests from US law enforcement and civil parties

The majority of legal process we received came from state/local law enforcement from the following US states: AK (1), AZ (1), CA (3), FL (1), GA (1), ID (1), IL (2), MI (1), MO (1), MN (3), ND (1), NJ (1), OH (1), TN (1), TX (1), PA (2), VI (1), WI (3). We also received legal process from federal agencies (13) and civil parties (3).

Number of times we were prohibited by protective order from notifying users

Our policy is to give notice to users whose information has been requested unless prohibited by law (e.g., by protective order or applicable statute – see guidelines for more info). Of the 39 US law enforcement requests we received, we were prohibited by law from notifying the user 16 times. None of the 3 civil requests we recieved prohibited us from notifying the user.

Number of times we produced information (whether partially or fully)

While the vast majority of requests are straightforward and routine, there are some occasions where we think the nature, scope or content of the request is objectionable or defective in some way, in which case, we’ll reject the request.

Note: We did not produce for any non-US law enforcement requests.


 

2013 Transparency Report Summary 

July 2013 - December 2013

From July to December 2013, we only received 7 warrants, 5 subpoenas, 1 civil subpoena, and 0 other requests about 13 user accounts.

We only received law enforcement requests from agencies in the United States, and 11 of 12 requests were from state or local agencies.
