Confirm your website

Confirming that you own your website adds your profile picture to any Pin that came from your site. You’ll also get access to website analytics so you can see what people are Pinning from your website. To confirm, you need to be able to edit your website's HTML code.

There are two ways to confirm: with a meta tag or by uploading an HTML file.

Use a meta tag

Step 1: Get the meta tag

  1. Click your name at the top of Pinterest
  2. Click the gear menu, then Account settings
  3. In the Website field, click Confirm website
  4. Copy the meta tag

Step 2: Add it to your website

Add it to the <head> section of the index.html file of your website before the <body> section

Step 3: Finish setting up

Go back to Pinterest and click Finish (we’ll automatically check the meta tag and confirm your site)

Upload an HTML file

Step 1: Get the file

  1. Click your name at the top of Pinterest
  2. Click the gear menu, then Account settings
  3. In the Website field, click Confirm website
  4. Click Download this file

Step 2: Upload this file to your website

Upload this HTML file to your web server at the root folder (don't upload to a subfolder or we won't be able to access it). Root folder names vary by provider—common ones are public_html, www, or wwwroot.

Be sure not to rename the file when you upload it to your server, since we'll be looking for an exact name match. For example, if you download pinterest-9d541.html, we won't recognize it if you upload it with a different name, like pinterest-9d541-1.html.

Step 3: Finish setting up

Go back to Pinterest and click Finish (we’ll automatically check the file and confirm your site)

Common questions

Why can't I confirm my website?
Can I remove the HTML file after I'm done setting up?
Can I confirm my website on more than one account?
Can I add more than one website to my account?

Right now, you can confirm your site for top-level domains like  www.example.com. If your website looks like www.example.com/example, it isn't a top-level domain.

HTML file upload and HTML meta tags are the only ways to confirm your site on Pinterest. You won’t be able to confirm your site for Etsy, Moonfruit, ArtFire, and drag-and-drop web builders.

Yes, after you're done confirming, you can remove the file or tag.

Keep in mind that making changes to your website in your Pinterest settings means you'll lose the verification and have to verify again.

No, if you already confirmed your website on one account and you’d like it for another, you’ll have to remove your website from the first account first.
Then you’ll need to go through the setup steps again on the new Pinterest account.

Right now, you can only have one website on your profile, and a website can only be confirmed by one Pinterest account.
