Profile permissions in Business Manager allow businesses to assign employees and partners the Publisher role so they can work on your profile, boards, and Pins without sharing your login credentials. 

Profile features

Employees and partners with Publisher permission will have access to all of the following features within a brand’s profile. Permissions are not customizable.

Note: Once assigned the Publisher role, employees and partners can create, edit, and organize Pins and boards without a business’s approval.

    • Create/edit/view: Secret boards

    • Archive & merge boards

    • Edit/delete: all Pin formats
    • Take actions on the Pin details page like move to another board, tag products, add note to self, add comments
    • Schedule Pins to publish in the future
  • Reporting
    • View individual Pin stats
  • Employees must be added in Business Manager before you can assign them the Publisher permission. There are two employee role options: 

    • Employee (default): An employee is only able to access ad accounts and profiles to which you grant them access. The employee role does not enable controls like adding employees or granting employees access.
    • Manager: Managers have full control of roles and can add employees or business partners, as well as grant ad account access.

    After a business sends an invite to an employee’s business account, that employee must accept it in order for the relationship to be established and to start working on assigned ad accounts or profiles.

    1. Login to your Pinterest business account.
    2. Click the menu icon in the top-left corner of your screen.
    3. Under Business, select Business Manager.
    4. Select Employees in the left menu. 
    5. Click Add employees.
    6. Choose the role that you’d like to assign to the employee you are adding.
    7. Look up an employee by entering the email associated with their Pinterest business account or by their username. You can add multiple employees at a time in this section. 
    8. Click Add employees.
    9. In the modal that pops up, select the business’s profile whose access you want to give to the employee. You can choose to assign the Publisher permission now or at a later date.
    10. Check the Publisher box.
    11. Click the Assign Permissions button.

    Your invite has been sent and is now waiting on an acceptance. An email notification will be sent to your employee, asking them to accept it and you will receive email confirmation when they have accepted.

    Tips for adding employees

    • You can only add employees if you are the business account owner or have been added as a manager. 
    • Only add people who work for your business as an employee.
    • Do not make anyone a manager unless that person is authorized to make financial commitments for your company and can authorize others to make financial commitments for your company. 
    • Establishing partnerships in Business Manager allows your partners to assign access to their employees. For example, an employee of an agency should not be added to Business Manager as an employee or partner of your brand. Instead, you should invite the agency to be a partner and assign them the Publisher role for your profile. The agency can then in turn assign their employees the Publisher permission to your profile.
    • We recommend adding most colleagues as employees. However, you should add a few people as Business Manager managers to help you manage roles and permissions within Business Manager.

    Partners are outside businesses, such as agencies or clients, that you work with. This is recommended for brands that want to add their agencies and share assets with them.

    When a partner is added, the process is a two-sided opt-in. After one business adds another as a partner, the other must accept it in order for the relationship to be established in Business Manager and to start working on assigned ad accounts or profiles.

    1. Login to your Pinterest business account.
    2. Click the menu icon in the top-left corner of your screen.
    3. Under Business, select Business Manager.
    4. Select Partners in the left menu.
    5. Click on Add partner.
    6. Enter the Business ID for the business you want to partner with. A Business ID is a unique identifier that can be found in Business Manager, at the top of the left navigation panel under the business name.
    7. Select Invite this partner to access your ad accounts and tools.
    8. Click on Add partner.
    9. On the left side, select the business’s profile whose access you want to give to the partner. You can choose to assign the Publisher permission now or at a later date.
    10. On the right side, check the Publisher box.
    11. Click the Assign permissions button.


    Tips for adding partners

    • You can only add partners if you are the business account owner or have been added as a Manager.
    • Partners are businesses that you work with. Do not add specific people, such as an agency employee or brand contacts, as partners.
    • Partners will need to share their Business ID with you in order for you to add them as a partner in Business Manager. The Business ID, which can be found in the left panel of the Business Manager navigation under your account name, is a unique identifier to ensure that only businesses you actually work with are able to request partner access. 

    When a partner request is sent through Business Manager, the recipient’s business account owner and Business Manager managers will be notified.

    1. Open the email from pinbot@info.pinterest.com with the subject line “You have a new partner request!”
    2. In the email, click on View Request.
    3. If needed, log in to the Pinterest business account associated with the requested partner. 
    4. From the invite page, click on Accept Request.

    After the request has been accepted, the user will land on the Partners section of their Business Manager and see the new business relationship established.

    Once an employee or partner has been added to Business Manager, profile permissions can be assigned to them.

    1. Login to your Pinterest business account.
    2. Click the menu icon in the top-left corner of your screen.
    3. Under Business, select Business Manager.
    4. Select Profiles in the left panel.
    5. In the table, click on your profile.
    6. After landing on the Profile details page, select the Employees or Partners tab.
    7. Click on the Assign employees or Assign partners button, which opens the assignment modal.
    8. Select an employee or partner and turn on the Publisher toggle.
    9. Click on Assign profile.                

    Note: Assigning the ‘publisher’ permission to a partner will not automatically allow all of their employees to access your profile, boards, and Pins. Your partner must in turn assign the Publisher permission to their employees, which the partner’s account owners or managers can do in Business Manager. 

    For business partners Accept a partner invite

    When a partner invite is sent through Business Manager, the recipient’s business account owner and Business Manager managers will be notified. An invite is generally sent by a brand who wants their agencies to manage their ad accounts.

  • Open the email from pinbot [at] info.pinterest.com (pinbot[at]info[dot]pinterest[dot]com) with the subject line “You have a new partner request!”
  • In the email, click on View Invite.
  • If needed, log in to the Pinterest business account associated with the invited partner.
  • If needed, edit ad account permissions that have been requested by clicking on the drop-down.
  • From the invite page, click on Accept invite.
  • After a partner accepts your invite, you will:

  • See the new business relationship established in the Partners section of Business Manager.
  • Receive an email notification alerting you that the invite has been accepted (Subject: Invite accepted).
  • Your partner will:

  • See your business listed in their Partners section of Business Manager, just like you will see their business listed in your Partners section.
  • Partners can also request access within Business Manager. 

    1. Login to your Pinterest business account.
    2. Click the menu icon in the top-left corner of your screen.
    3. Under Business, select Business Manager.
    4. Select Partners from the left menu. 
    5. On the right side of the page, click the Add partner button.
    6. In the modal that pops up, enter the Business ID that you would like to partner with. The Business ID, which can be found in the left panel of the Business Manager navigation under your account name, is a unique identifier to ensure that only businesses you actually work with are able to request partner access. 
    7. Select the option to Request access to this partner's ad accounts and tools.
    8. At the bottom of the modal, click Add partner.
    1. Login to your Pinterest business account.
    2. Click the menu icon in the top-left corner of your screen.
    3. Under Business, select Business Manager.
    4. Select Employees in the left panel. 
    5. Click Add employees.
    6. Choose the role that you’d like to assign.
    7. Search for a person by entering the email associated with their Pinterest business account or by their username. You can add multiple employees at a time in this section. 
    8. Click Add employees.
    9. You can choose to assign permissions now or later. To add them now, click Assign assets to grant permissions to employees you’ve just added.
    10. In the modal that pops up, select the business that you would like to give access to.
    11. Check the Publisher box.
    12. Click the Assign Permissions button.

    Your invite has been sent and is now waiting on an acceptance. An email notification will be sent to your employee, asking them to accept it and you will receive email confirmation when they have accepted.

    When someone has been assigned the Publisher permission for a particular profile, they will be able to switch between their own profile and the profile(s) assigned to them. 

    1. Login to Pinterest business account.
    2. Go to your profile by clicking on the profile picture in the navigation bar.
    3. Under the navigation bar at the top of the page, you will see a drop down that allows you to toggle between your profile and profiles shared with you. Click on the drop down and then on a profile that is shared with you.
    4. From this shared profile, you can choose to create Pins, create public or secret boards, schedule Pins, and more.
